This morning’s hike at Radnor Lake started out not unusual. Crowded parking lot meant there’d be more folks to see on the trails but it seems like the majority of the visitors walk or run on Otter Creek Road or take the easier trails. Stephen arrived first so after I replayed his instructions in my head about 50 times (”head south, head south”), I translated that into my “counterclockwise” direction and headed up the hill to the South Cove Loop trail. I met Stephen at the top of that trail.
I brought my camera hoping to shoot a new panorama from the north end of the lake at the old caretaker’s house but it turned out to be too hazy to get a good sky shot. I want blue sky.
We did our usual 4.5 mile loop and caught up for the week since we hadn’t hiked together in a while.
I’m really happy I brought the camera. Two hikers we passed told us that there were two male whitetail deer ahead on the Lake Trail. I wasn’t expecting much but we were amazed to see two bucks, one ten point and one eight, munching leaves and generally hanging out by the northeast corner of the lake:

We watched the bucks for about ten minutes, I shot photos, and Stephen marketed this blog to anyone who would listen (and some who wouldn’t). See more photos of the bucks here.
