Walking on a Pile of Wood Chips

It was an uncharacteristically short hike today, but not on purpose. I got a late start due to the difficulty I had in peeling myself away from surfing the web for CSS info with a typography emphasis. Know what I mean?

There were about 30 wheelbarrows on Otter Creek Road, in a great double-stacked row near the South Cove trailhead.  The South Cove Lake trail has now been almost entirely ‘paved’ with wood chips.  And not just a thin layer, but a veritable pile.  It was a little bit like walking in sand.  It will be better once it settles in and has been packed down by hundreds and hundreds of boots.

A group of canoe enthusiasts, which included Kelly and his son, and was led by Ranger Randy (Hedgepath, presumably!), were just paddling in, and putting their canoes back into their places on the canoe trailer rack by the bridge.

I hope someone in that group blogs about their experiences canoeing on the lake — that would be very interesting!

I am determined to make up for the last two short hikes by creating an extra-strenuous hike for myself tomorrow (Sunday) morning.
